2019 MHA Research Heater Tests

Test MHA-1915
February 19, 2019

Random loading, dry red oak, log cabin stacking, top ignition. Cold firebox, cold fuel
Pieces loaded in order of increasing weight. 2344 stacking.
64.7 lbs including 2.1 lbs kindling
Estimated moisture 13%.
Run #9 of a cold firebox test series. Heater fired every 2nd day.
The Testo data was started 20 minutes before the test.
Fewer, larger kindling pieces and tight stacking of the pile resulted in a slow start,
as can be seen in the stack temperature graph, below. Small rise in PM, as a result. CO very low.

Pisla HTT 602 door, 22" wide
Austrian eco firebox, see  http://www.heatkit.com/research/lopez-2014-03-01.html

Condar spreadsheet results at 90 minutes.

Testo Raw Data

Lab Notes

Testo gas graph to 107 minutes. Only the first 90 minute data was used for the gas calculations, as this is normally when the air would be closed in the Austrian eco-firebox system.

Plot of Condar current draw vs. time.
Gives an indication of real time cumulative PM.

Burn sequence. Time lapse taken at 2 minute intervals.
