In ASTM testing, the load is intended to be ignited from a hot coal bed.
In this modification, pieces on the top row are split in half, and ignited with kindling placed on top
Red oak, log cabin stacking, 234 stacking. Top ignition
60.5 lbs including 2.0 lbs kindling
20.3% moisture. 234 stacking.
Pieces are numbered from the bottom up, front-to-back and left-to-right

Notice
the burn progression. Once the initial surface flaming on the large
lower pieces is over and a char layer has formed, the fire burns very
slowly. The second row is still intact after the 90 minute standard
test length.
