2018 MHA Research Heater Tests

Test MHA-1811
January 30, 2018

Heat exchanger reconfigured from downdrafting parallel channels
to a serial channel.

Red oak, small fuel, half load
Cold heater, cold fuel
Log cabin stacking, top ignition
32.0 lbs including 2.0 lbs kindling
21.3% moisture. 2345 stacking.

Pisla HTT 602 door, 22" wide
Austrian eco firebox, see  http://www.heatkit.com/research/lopez-2014-03-01.html

Condar spreadsheet results, calculated at 90 minutes.
60 minutes is when the air normally would be closed and the burn finished, with the Austrian eco-labelled firebox, due to the quick burn today
(compare gas curves, below, with yesterday).
With the eco-box, the test is over when the air supply is closed. Remaining charcoal would normally be burned in the next fire.

Lab Notes

Flue gas graph to 90 minutes.
Note: CO curve is inaccurate due to failing sensor. Backup CO data has been used for calculations.
Compare graph with yesterday's test with a cold heater and cold fuel, which had a much slower start.

Testo gas graph.
Note: CO curve is inaccurate due to failing sensor. Backup CO data has been used for calculations.
Red line is stack temperature and green line is room temperature.

Red oak, same fuel batch as last series of 2017
Log cabin stacking, top ignition
34.0 lbs including 2.0 lbs kindling
21.3% moisture.

Burn sequence.
Time lapse taken at 2 minute intervals, fixed focus and fixed exposure.
