2014 Heater Fuel Tests at Shawville

White birch cordwood. Large wood, mix of wet and dry (see fueling details in Condar spreadsheet)
Side ignition.  Newspaper 3/4 up the kindling pile.
61.7 lbs including 5.2 lbs kindling
22.4% moisture
Cleanest burn recorded on this heater to date.

Stack temperature corrected for height.

Animation,  5 minute intervals.  Newspaper is located 3/4 up the kindling stack. Very staged start. Sequence goes to 140 minutes.
Note after the whole pile catches and is flaming strongly, the flaming goes down , then up again.

On the red flue temperature curve, at the beginning the sensor is in room air and then immediately goes into the closed flue. After about half an hour, the flue damper is opened, and then the ashbox door, and then the heater door.

Note very clean start due to staged kindling. 
Note the pile collapse at 85 minutes, and then a poke to lift the two bottom unburned pieces buried under charcoal.
