First run, preburn
Test load visible to the right.
The
test load was based on an erroneous self-reported firebox volume, and
was about twice what it should have been. Results were bad.

Note fuel on upper grate. This grate was not designed for fuel loading, but as an aid to flame re-ignition.

Main load has been split finer, because there was anticipated difficulty loading it.
Ray Albrecht inserts temperature probe into chimney. Rebecca Trojanowski from Brookhaven was the main technician collecting and
collating data from the instruments, as well as operating the instruments.

This
was a bad run, because after the fact it was discovered that the load
should have been only half the size, based on firebox volume.
The team had mis-understood the definition of firebox volume, and included the volume above the second grate.
